About Pawnstormers
Pawnstormers organizes US Chess-rated tournaments in the Toledo area for players of all ages and skill levels. Our goal is simple: run well-organized, competitive events where experienced tournament players and newcomers alike feel welcome.
Pawnstormers events are directed by a Tournament Director who serves on the boards of both the Ohio Chess Association and the Ohio Scholastic Chess Association and is SafeSport certified.
About the Toledo Open
The Toledo Open is Pawnstormers' flagship recurring rated tournament series, with events held throughout the year. Adults and scholastic players compete in the same tournament. Every event has an Open section; additional sections are based on the final field and players' Published Ratings, with U1400 and U800 as target cutoffs that the TD may adjust or expand as entries warrant.
You don't need to choose a section when you register. Once registration is complete, players are grouped as closely as practical by rating and playing strength.
