Tournament Details
Tournament Format
- Format
- 4-round Swiss
- Time Control
- G/50; d5Each player has 50 minutes for the game, with a 5-second delay before the clock begins counting down on each move.
Schedule
- Doors Open
- 9:30 a.m. for everyone
- Open Section
- Rounds at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.
- Under Sections
- Round 1 at 10:30 a.m. Rounds 2–4 are paired ASAP after the preceding round finishes.
Sections & Eligibility
- US Chess
- Active US Chess membership is required.
- Sections
- There will be an Open section. Additional sections will be based on the final field and Published Ratings, with U1400 and U800 as the target cutoffs. The TD may adjust cutoffs or add sections based on entries to create competitive groups.
- Playing Up
- Players may request to play up, subject to a minimum rating threshold set by the TD.
Byes
- Advance Byes
- Players may request up to one 1/2-point bye in any round except the final round. No 1/2-point bye is available in the final round. Players may request unlimited advance 0-point byes.
Equipment & Awards
- Equipment
- Pawnstormers provides boards and pieces. Please bring a chess clock.
- Awards
- Cash prizes are awarded to top finishers in the Open section. Trophies are awarded to top finishers in the remaining sections.
Refunds
- Refund Policy
- Players who notify Pawnstormers before the published Round 1 start time for their section receive a full refund. No refunds are given for no-shows or withdrawals at or after the published Round 1 start time for their section.
